I have a pioneer radio and it now skips on even brand new cd's, do you think that I should get a new one, or is there an easy fix. Can you clean the laser, etc? Thanks for the help. _________________

Oh, yeah that thing is in there, my buddy installs this stuff for a living, and he is talking about the laser might be going bad. I think I might just break down and buy a new one _________________

I had one of these in my '97 and loved it...
Pioneer DEH-P47DH
Fills in that huge gap the DC made for the OEM stereos and I never had a problem skipping. If my factory head unit ever takes a dump on me, I'll definately go back to one of them . _________________ Drink more Ovaltine!!! |

with the dropping prices on decent head units it may not pay to even try and get it repaired. i'd first try to clean the eye - if that doesn't work just cut your losses and get another middle of the road model. that way you won't have to sell your first born to have it replaced when the dirt, mud, and rain get into it and burn it up again i'm running the kdc-mp919 right now. a little complicated for setting up some of the features, but rock solid performance - have yet to hear it skip on even the most hazed of cd's

I've got a Kenwood too...the thing will play CDs flawlessly offroad from trail to trail. It's awesome. However, I don't listen to them often offroad...don't want to intentionally screw things up. _________________ 04 Unlimited |

I'd highly suggest a cd player with MP3 playback. I keep about 5 cd's in my jeep. That translates to about 60-75 albums. If someone steals them out of my Jeep, then I'm out about.......one dollar. You just burn MP3's directly on to CD/R's and they play like normal cd's.
That is what mine looks like. When I turn the ignition off, the faces flips inside and all that passers by can see is a black panel where a stereo should go. My brother in law bought almost the exact same model at Wally World for around $100, and it works just as well as mine does. If you drive your jeep w/o doors all summer like I do, then no matter what you get make sure that the faces either comes off or collapses into itself.
I can't wait until someone makes a stereo that can play MP3 endoded DVD's- now that would be sweeeeet _________________ But hey, WTF do I know? I kick Hippies for fun.
