I want a dedicated GPS installed in my XJ. I have played with multiple cheap alternatives and now want to bite the bullet and get a functional unit and LEAVE it in my Jeep Cherokee (vs. moving my street suited Garmen NUVI from my daily driver etc.) It isn't well suited anyway. I can load it with multiple waypoints but it will accept ONLY one waypoint per route!
What is best/most widely used out there for my Trail rig? I would like it to assist me getting to/from trail location and then have capability to accept someone else's well documented trail (waypoints/routes) and give me the ability to document my own trail endeavors for future reference.
I am really interested in what you guys are using and your honest pro/con recommendations.
THANKS in Advance! _________________

I have a old Garmin handheld unit, like you said, it's hard to see when driving, but a friend of mine bought a lowrance GPS unit. His is more of a marine gps, it's also radar capable, but it would look strange with a rotating antenna on the top of a Cherokee.
I'm not sure if the unit came with the memory card or if he had to buy it, but the mapping is very detailed, he can switch form top view, 3D or topo.

He modified the mount so it would bolt to the roll bar right below the rearview mirror, looked like a small TV from outside.
It's a pricy unit at $600. _________________ 2002 Wrangler Apex
