|
|
While we were at Uwharrie, we boarded our dogs. While there, one of them Tyr (pronounced tier), went into hypoglycemic shock (she's diabetic) sometime on Sunday night. We do not know how long she was in this state. All we know is she was found Monday morning seizing and with a high fever. Due to the combination of going hypoglycemic and the high fever, the chances of brain damage are very high. As of now, she is non-responsive and is still having tremors.
She is currently in the care of Richmond Veterinary Hospital and we have just authorized them to insert a number of catheters...basically urinary, nutritional, and oxygen...as well as have some blood work and a CT scan performed. The CT scan will help us determine if there is any macroscopic damage to her brain. The blood work is to determine if she has developed any hemophilia or clotting risks in her bloodstream. The oxygen, urinary and nutritional catheters are self explanatory. The plan is to look at the results of all the tests, coupled with how responsive she is when those tests come in and determine our next steps from there...all this will be within the next 24-48 hours.
Basically, we are trying to give her the chance to recover...but realistically, there's a very strong possibility that we'll have to put her down. Needless to say, both Jen and I are very upset right now.
I do not cry very often....almost never actually...but I am weeping like a baby as I write this. I have had Tyr since 1999...I got her when she was 5 weeks old. She was a pup from a litter that my sisters dog had. She is a pure bred red nose pit bull. I have had dogs all my life and hands down, she is the best dog I've ever had.

MJ and I were also very saddened to hear this news. We are still hoping she makes a turn-around!
Our prayers are with you, Jen and Tyr! |

Tyr was put down at approximately 6:30 pm (ET) tonight. Jen and I were present while she was euthanized. She spent her last living moments being pet by both of us. _________________

Donna and I are very sorry to here this. There is nothing to compare to the loss of a great freind, companion and family member. Having to make this choice ourselves several times and doing what I do I go through the mixed emotions of the loss of the loved one and the joy that they are no longer suffering. If we can do anything please let us know.

Sorry to hear this. Went through having to have ours put to sleep a couple years ago and truly realize how 'pets' become so much more to the family. _________________ Drink more Ovaltine!!! |
