| Ther has been a significant section of the dunes at Christmas Valley closed off with a line of non-identified stakes that simply say closed. We ride there twice a year, Spring and Fall. Does anyone know the reason for the closure? Who can we contact to start the processs to get it opened up again? |

I spoke with the BLM rep. He said the area has "always been closed " to portect the fossil beds at Fossil Lake. I told him we were aware of that area but the new stakes appeared to have been set a half mile or so further into the dunes. His answer was yes they had recently moved the boundary. Our connection wasn't good (cell phone) so he said he would refer my questions to the Recreational Person to answer the whys.
It always bothers me when some bleeding heart finds reason to restrict areas off roaders have enjoyed for decades. They sure don't ask for public comment. One or two howlers can throw us out just by making noise. |
