Hi,
A couple of weeks ago one of my break lights was off and I forgot about it thinking that it was a bulb going bad.
A couple of days ago I noticed that all 3 break lights were out, not good sign at all. I checked the bulbs and they all seem to be ok ( I am not sure and about the back door top light). I got a new break light switch and nothing happened. I checked the cables and there is power coming into the break switch.
At this point I have no clue what is wrong with it. Any help would be great. |

Check the fuses. Could be dirty contacts or loose/bad fuse(s). And just because the bulbs look good doesn't mean they are. If I was to go to the trouble of taking the covers off to check them I would simply replace them with new ones being they are so cheap. But that's just me. I typically check to make sure the bulbs work before re-installing the covers, too.
On the wife's XJ she had a bulb short out. It caused havoc with the entire turning signal circuit...but intermittently. After replacing switches (and a few things) I tried the bulbs...EVEN though they appeared to be working. Guess what...that solved the problem. So sometimes after checking/replacing the obvious, look at the not so obvious. With electrical something as simple as dirty and/or bad ground or bulb socket will cause issues.
