Plumas National Forest Requests Help
Inventorying OHV Areas
Over the next few months,
the Plumas National
Forest will complete an inventory of all roads, trails, and areas used
by off-highway vehicles (including mountain bikes) and ultimately
designate a system of routes and areas that are open to OHV use. At
this time, all existing routes and areas that are currently being used
by OHVs are being mapped.
Between now and Oct 1, 2005, the forest service is providing
opportunities for all interested parties to map routes that are
currently being used, and to evaluate trail and area conditions. This
information will then be used to develop an interim Forest Order, which
will be issued in the spring of 2006, and will limit future OHV use to
those areas that are mapped - until a final environmental analysis can
be completed.
This is your opportunity to ensure that your favorite areas are
included in this process. If they are not identified and mapped prior
to Oct 1st, they will not be included in the interim Forest Order, and
OHV use will be prohibited until a final decision is rendered in 2008.
The forest service cannot possibly know all of the areas that you like
to recreate on and will certainly miss some without your assistance.
