Recreation Groups File Motion to Intervene
in Clear Creek Lawsuit
SAN JOSE, CA (February
10, 2005) -- Trail access groups filed a notice and
motion to intervene in a lawsuit regarding efforts by green groups to
ban off-highway vehicle use in the Clear Creek Management Area (CCMA)
near Coalinga, California. CCMA is a destination recreation area that
is managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
The intervention was
filed today in the U.S. District Court for the
Northern District in California. The groups petitioning the court
include the Salinas Ramblers Motorcycle Club, American Motorcyclists
Association District 36, the California Off-Road Vehicle Association,
the California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs, the Off-Road
Business Association, and the BlueRibbon Coalition, which
recently began fundraising efforts.
"I feel it is important
for recreation interests to weigh in and
strongly defend responsible recreation at CCMA. Our member clubs have a
good record and working with the agency on mutual resource management
goals and we intend to build our case on that foundation," Turcke
concludes.
